Membership

Our history organizations are open to any man or woman with an abiding interest in history, and not every member has to be ready to make kit and go out in the snow. For different eras, we have different projects. Last year, the women of our late 18th century group put on a public display of a regimental laundry,Laundry detail complete with firewood details, period ironing, and fine sewing, all to support the general impression of a military camp. For Marathon, we hope to have a dance group who will demonstrate Archaic Greek dances, both by men and women. Although most members contribute to the mainstream military impressions of the times we portray, that is subtly changing as both our group and the purpose of living history and experimental archeology grow and evolve.

Some members support us with research and writing, so that our websites and our periodical can contain current, informative, and exciting research that supports our core mission of recreating the past. A few members participate mostly by supporting us with donations or services.

We accept men and women eighteen years or older. For young people we know, or who come recommended to us and with the support of active parents, we're happy to start them younger. We have yet to find an upper age limit for participation. One of our members was out as a Loyalist farmer in freezing rain in the Adirondack Mountains last fall at the age of seventy-six.

We have rules, both of common sense and social acceptance. Most of our rules are rules you'd make for yourself and your friends, and they've never scared anyone away yet.

Don't be fooled. We have a great deal of fun. We work pretty hard, too. And we'd love to have you come along, if you'd like to contact us.
